Stephen K. Klasko, MD, MBA

Dr. Stephen Klasko has been a pioneer in using connected care to build health assurance for all – especially as we emerge from the Covid-19 crisis. As President and CEO of Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health since 2013, he has led one of the U.S.’s fastest growing academic health institutions based on his vision of the future of higher education. This year he published “Un-Healthcare: A Manifesto for Health Assurance,” with Hemant Taneja, as well as the textbook, “Patient No Longer: Why Healthcare Must Deliver the Care Experience that Consumers Want and Expect.” Jefferson’s 14 hospitals handled the most patients with Covid-19 in Philadelphia. Jane Dickerson, PhD, DABCC

Director, Chemistry, Director of Reference Lab Services, and Medical Director, North Clinic, Seattle Children’s Hospital

Jane Dickerson, PhD, DABCC is Director of Chemistry, Director of Reference Lab Services, and the Medical Director at the North Clinic at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She completed her graduate work in analytical chemistry at the University of Washington, where she stayed for clinical chemistry fellowship in the Department of Lab Medicine. As a clinical associate professor at Seattle Children’s and the University of Washington Department of Lab Medicine, Dr. Dickerson focuses her research on the science of the delivery of care—improving processes to get the right test ordered (laboratory stewardship), performed (analysis of alternative matrices), and resulted (failure to retrieve) for the best patient care. She is a co-founder and Director of Clinical Services for PLUGS (Patient-centered Laboratory Utilization Guidance Services), a national collaboration whose mission is to improve test ordering, retrieval, interpretation, and reimbursement.

Shez Partovi, MD

Worldwide Lead: Healthcare, Life Sciences, Genomics, Med Devices AWS

Dr. Shez Partovi obtained his medical degree from the prestigious McGill University, in Montreal, Canada and completed his neuroradiology subspecialty training at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ. He is a serial entrepreneur and has launched a number of health IT companies, one of which was a telehealth company built on AWS. After a decade of clinical practice, Dr. Partovi transitioned into executive roles at Dignity Health where he served as its Chief Health Information Officer and, subsequently, as Chief Digital Officer/SVP of Digital Transformation. As the CHIO, Dr. Partovi oversaw the deployment of Cerner across the enterprise in both inpatient, outpatient and oncology settings. As the CDO, Dr. Partovi was responsible for the digital experience of consumers, patients and providers across Dignity Health. Shez joined Amazon Web Services in 2018 as the Worldwide lead for Healthcare, Life Sciences and Genomics. He is currently working on over a dozen large scale initiatives across the globe and has a unique perspective of the opportunities to transform healthcare worldwide. Dr. Partovi combines his clinical, entrepreneurial and AWS experience to help the audience Think Big and imagine the Art of the Possible.

Atul Butte, MD, PhD

Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg Distinguished Professor and Inaugural Director of the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute, University of California, San Francisco; Chief Data Scientist, University of California Health System

Atul Butte, MD, PhD is the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg Distinguished Professor and inaugural Director of the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute (bchsi.ucsf.edu) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Butte is also the Chief Data Scientist for the entire University of California Health System, with 20 health professional schools, 6 medical schools, 5 academic medical centers, 10 hospitals, and over 1000 care delivery sites. Dr. Butte has been continually funded by NIH for 20 years, is an inventor on 24 patents, and has authored over 200 publications, with research repeatedly featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Wired Magazine. Dr. Butte was elected into the National Academy of Medicine in 2015, and in 2013, he was recognized by the Obama Administration as a White House Champion of Change in Open Science for promoting science through publicly available data. Dr. Butte is also a founder of three investor-backed data-driven companies: Personalis (IPO, 2019), providing medical genome sequencing services, Carmenta (acquired by Progenity, 2015), discovering diagnostics for pregnancy complications, and NuMedii, finding new uses for drugs through open molecular data. Dr. Butte trained in Computer Science at Brown University, worked as a software engineer at Apple and Microsoft, received his MD at Brown University, trained in Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology at Children’s Hospital Boston, then received his PhD from Harvard Medical School and MIT.

Yolangel “Yogi” Hernandez Suarez, MD, MBA, FACOG

Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs, Florida International University Former Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Humana for Population Health

Dr. Yogi Hernandez Suarez is Founding Vice Provost for Population Health and Well-being at Florida International University. As one of South Florida’s anchor institutions, FIU plays a central role in generating, sharing, and implementing knowledge that promotes health and well-being.  FIU endeavors to graduate students who are responsible for their own health and who support and advocate for the health of their community.  Answering directly to the Provost, Dr. Hernandez Suarez works collaboratively and across disciplines to incorporate health promotion and literacy into all aspects of student culture, administration, operations, and academic mandates. She is also Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs in the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and serves as a strategic consultant to FIU’s community-based Academic Health Center. Dr. Hernandez Suarez has been a physician leader in Miami for almost 20 years, with positions in private, public, academic, and hospital settings. Her first role in leadership was in the Jackson Health System where she advanced to serve as Chief Administrative Officer of Ambulatory Services.  Imprinted by her time in the safety net, she has spent her career building value for patients, providers, and learners through public- private partnerships, inclusive practice models, and community relationships. Most recently, Dr. Hernandez Suarez was Vice President for Clinical Innovation for Conviva Care Solutions, a managed care subsidiary of Humana, Inc. where she led population health management for 250,000 seniors in a full risk model. She has received multiple awards for her leadership and was recently elected to the International Women’s Forum for her impact in healthcare. Born and raised in New York City, she attended Swarthmore College and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.  She holds a Master of Business Administration with specialization in Health Administration and Policy from the University of Miami. Dr. Hernandez Suarez is a first generation Cuban American whose parents came to New York in 1961.  She is married to Dr. Jeffrey D. Simmons. They are the parents of twins, Gabriela and David. David is autistic; his journey fuels her unrelenting passion for the inclusion and well-being of special populations. 

Kenneth Furton, PhD

Provost and Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs

Dr. Kenneth G. Furton is Provost, Executive Vice President, and COO of FIU with 34 years of higher education experience in administration, education, research and innovation, with a proven track record of balancing fiscal responsibility and regulatory compliance while advancing a culture of student success and research excellence in an urban, multicultural setting that has led to across the board improvements in student outcomes, faculty success, growth of the research enterprise, community impact and rankings. In the last 6 years as Provost, he has led the development and implementation of two FIU strategic plans (BeyondPossible2020 and NextHorizon 2025) and the implementation of many initiatives lead to increases in many performance metrics including 2nd year retention rate from 84% in 2014 to 90% in 2019 and 4-year FTIC graduation rate from 25% to 43% with goal of 60% by 2025. These improvements helped more FIU from #8 to #2 in the State in performance-based funding rankings. During this time, FIU also moved from meeting none of the preeminent research university metrics to achieving 8 of 12 in 2018 to qualify as an emerging preeminent research university and moving from R2 to R1 Carnegie Research University. These improvements have increased FIU’s national profile resulting in numerous top 50 public university rankings including #18 in Washington Monthly among public universities – continuing to climb in these rankings from No. 43 in 2019. Among public universities, FIU ranks No. 12 for social mobility and No. 35 for public service. Washington Monthly also placed FIU at No. 3 among public universities in the 2020 Best Bang for the Buck Rankings in the Southeast, an “exclusive” list of schools ranked according to how well they help low-income students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices. Dr. Furton is a leading scholar in forensic chemistry, specializing in scent detection and he continues to be active mentoring research students and publishing. He is the author or co-author of more than 211 peer reviewed publications, 24 patents, 2 books and 658 conference presentations including hundreds of invited talks nationally and internationally. Dr. Furton has testified as an expert witness in dozens of state and federal trials. His research projects have been continuously funded for more than three decades, totaling more than $14 million in external funding. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and an elected fellow of the American Academy of Inventors. 

Mick Raich

Chief Executive Officer Vachette Path and Stark Auditing

Mick Raich founded Vachette in 2002 to help audit laboratory revenue results and revenue cycle operations. Vachette’s clients include healthcare systems, community hospitals, hospital outreach laboratories, independent laboratories, and pathology practices.  Auditing and restructuring RCM processes by applying a 686-step, measurable process, to increase revenue is the company’s mission.  His 40 years in healthcare have helped him build an intimate understanding of the revenue cycle process, managed care negotiations, Part A / medical director negotiations, and revenue strategy in the laboratory business.  Mick is a nationally recognized speaker on changes in the laboratory revenue cycle industry and has presented for numerous state societies, universities and industry publications. 

Don Brown, MD

Chief Executive Officer LifeOmic

Dr. Don Brown is the most successful serial software entrepreneur in the Midwest. His first company was acquired by EDS in 1986. He founded Software Artistry in 1988 which became the first software company in Indiana ever to go public and was later acquired by IBM for $200 million. Don then founded and served as CEO of Interactive Intelligence which went public in 1999 and was acquired by Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories in 2016 for $1.4 billion. Don received a bachelor’s in physics from Indiana University in 1978, a master’s in computer science from IU in 1982, an MD from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1985, and a master’s in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University in 2017.

Steven Goldberg, MD, MBA

Vice President, Medical Affairs, Population Health and Chief Health Officer, Quest Diagnostics

Steven (‘Dr. G’) Goldberg, MD, MBA, is VP, Medical Affairs, Population Health and Chief Health Officer, Health & Wellness, for Quest Diagnostics.  His objectives are to drive innovation and value in employer population health and precision medicine.  Quest Diagnostics Medical Affairs provides scientific support for product development and post market support to both internal teams and external customers.  Our Employee Health Benefits team is methodically improving member healthcare experience, clinical outcomes and bending cost trends for our employees and their families.  Our Health & Wellness team partners with employers to implement innovative workplace screening and population health solutions.  Prior to joining Quest in May 2016, he served as SVP, Chief Medical Officer at WellCare Health Plans, a provider of government-sponsored managed care services.  He has previously served in executive medical management roles with Aetna, Centene, Express Scripts, Humana and Excellus BCBS.  He received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, Medical Degree from Jefferson Medical College, completed Family Medicine residency in Upstate NY, an MBA at Binghamton, University.  Dr. Goldberg is board certified in Family Medicine and has part-time practice in Indiana.

Gary Stuck, DO, FAAFP

Chief Medical Officer Advocate Aurora Health

Gary Stuck, DO FAAFP, leads safety, health outcomes, population health, medical staff services/credentialing and insurance/risk management at Advocate Aurora Health. He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Advocate Physician Partners and its Clinically Integrated Network and chairs the Advocate Aurora Health Enterprise Population Health Council Board of Directors. He provides co-executive leadership of the Advocate Aurora Health Equities Council. In 2019, he was recognized among 100 Hospital and Health System Chief Medical Officers to Know by Becker’s Hospital Review. A family medicine physician for 32 years, Dr. Stuck served as president of Lawn Medical Center, a nine-physician primary care group in Oak Lawn, Illinois. He was a founding member of the Advocate Physician Partners Board of Directors, where he served as chair for 13 years. He also held the role of president for the Advocate Christ Medical Center physician-hospital organization for 22 years and was a member of the medical center’s governing council for more than two decades. Additionally, Dr. Stuck provided clinical insight as a member of the Advocate Board of Directors for six years. A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Stuck completed his undergraduate education in biology and psychology at Morningside College and earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Des Moines University. In 2014 the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians named him the Illinois Family Physician of the Year.

David Carmouche, MD

President, Ochsner Health Network; Senior Vice President, Community Care, & Executive Director, Accountable Care Network, Ochsner Health System

Dr. David Carmouche joined Ochsner with 19 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience in medicine and operations. In addition to his role as President of the Ochsner Health Network, Dr. Carmouche oversees the Primary Care and Urgent Care/Occupational Health service lines and all population health programs as the Senior Vice President of Community Care for Ochsner Medical Center — Jefferson Highway. Before joining Ochsner, Dr. Carmouche served as the Executive Vice President of External Operations and Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana in Baton Rouge where he successfully led important initiatives designed to organize care, improve quality and increase affordability. Dr. Carmouche earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tulane University, a Medical Degree from LSU-NO School of Medicine, and completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also completed the Executive Program for Managing Health Care Delivery at the Harvard Business School.

Dave Dexter

David Dexter is the General Manager, Joint Ventures, for the Quest Diagnostics Operations in Arizona, serving as President and CEO for Sonora Quest Laboratories, LLC, a joint venture between Quest Diagnostics (a Fortune 400 company) and Banner Health (the largest non-secular health delivery system in the United States). He also serves as President and CEO for Laboratory Sciences of Arizona, LLC, which provides oversight and strategic direction for 16 hospital and rapid-response laboratories supporting 20 Banner health hospitals, academic medical centers and cancer centers across the state of Arizona.David is a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt, and he serves on the Board and as Board Chair for Arizona Health-e Connection, as Vice-Chair for the Health Information Network Leadership Council, the National Leadership Council for eHealth Initiative, the Board of Chancellors for JDRF, the Leadership Council for the Arizona Diabetes Coalition, and the Board of Directors for the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also a member of the American Cancer Society’s CEOs Against Cancer.

Patrick Holland

Chief Financial Officer Atrius Health

Patrick is the CFO at Atrius Health. He joined Atrius Health in October 2016. Prior to that, Mr. Holland worked at KPMG in Boston as a principal in their healthcare advisory services since 2014. He also previously spent more than four years as founder and managing director of the Boston office of Wakely Consulting Group. In that role, he led the organization’s expansion by working with federal and state governments, as well as payers and providers nationally and locally, according to a news release. From 2006-2010, Mr. Holland was CFO of Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority, a government-sponsored insurance exchange that was the model for the state exchanges under the Affordable Care Act, according to a news release. Mr. Holland earned an MBA with a concentration in healthcare administration from Suffolk University in Boston.

Stuart Beatty, Pharm.D., BCACP, FAPhA

Stuart Beatty has more than 15 years of experience serving patients, teaching students, authoring papers, conducting research, and delivering presentations in the areas of ambulatory care clinical practice and management. He is Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy for the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, Director of Strategy and Practice Transformation at the Ohio Pharmacists Association, and President of Strategic Pharmacy Initiatives, LLC. His expertise includes all aspects of ambulatory clinical and operational practice, including billing for services, pharmacist involvement in the medical home, medication therapy management billing, pharmacist involvement in pay-for-performance incentives, population health and outcomes, and transitions of care operations. Stuart’s consulting expertise includes assisting payors, health systems, physician practices, and community-based- practitioner clients in preparation for or expansion of pharmacist-provided services and aligning with clinical initiatives and value-based payment models. Stuart earned his Pharm.D., with Distinction, from the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy in Ada, Ohio. He is a Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist and a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association.

Eric Bricker, MD

Dr. Bricker is an internal medicine physician and former Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Compass Professional Health Services.  Compass is a Healthcare Navigation service that grew to 2,000+ clients including T-Mobile, Southwest Airlines and Chili’s/Maggiano’s Restaurants.  Compass was acquired by Alight Solutions in July 2018.  Alight is a 10,000 person employee benefits and HR outsourcing company that separated from Aon in 2017. Ben Kraus

Managing Director at Kain Capital Co-founder & President at Stellar Health

Ben has spent the past decade working in health insurance, managed care and primary care operations. Currently, Ben is a Managing Director at Kain Capital, where he launched a dedicated fund to invest in primary care medical groups and services. Ben’s most recent investment was an 80-provider primary care medical group that manages ~83,000 patients; Ben is helping the group evolve to a global capitation model where the group takes full financial accountability for each attributed patient. Prior to Kain Capital, Ben co-founded Stellar Health, a venture-backed technology company that helps primary care providers complete important risk-adjustment and quality chores more efficiently. As of 2020, Stellar serves nearly a dozen payers and thousands of primary care providers and recently received a Series A investment from P72 to support additional growth. Prior to launching Stellar, Ben led one of the largest Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organizations in the U.S., with over 4,000 participating physicians responsible for $1.5b in annual recurring medical care. Ben was a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. and received his MBA from Wharton.

Jim Gartner

Executive Vice President, Clinical Strategy at AssureCare

Jim brings a wealth of clinical and healthcare expertise to AssureCare and its flagship platform product, MedCompass®.  He is an industry leader in pharmacy, medication management, and passionate about connecting all facets of health care.  Prior to joining AssureCare, Jim spent more than 8 years at CareSource focused on pharmacy, UM/medical management, provider services, retail strategy and quality during his years at the regional health plan.  Jim is guiding AssureCare’s integration of the UM, CM, population health, quality and pharmacy parameters to ensure it meets the needs of a comprehensive member platform with a 360° view focused on member care.  He brings great vision and knowledge to our growing healthcare enterprise platform. He has worked in the PBM industry, been a pharmacy consultant and began his career as owner and operator of retail pharmacies. Jim is pharmacist and holds a BS in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University and an MBA from Cleveland State University.

Jessica Saba, Pharm.D.

BCGP Director, Value-Based and Population Health Pharmacy at Highmark

Jessica Saba, PharmD, BCGP currently serves as the Director of Value-Based and Population Health Pharmacy at Highmark Health, a large Integrated Delivery and Financing System in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia. In 2018, Jessica launched the Population Health Pharmacy team, which collaborates with Highmark’s provider partners in pursuit of implementing pharmacy specific strategies and solutions that advance the adoption of pharmacist-led care to achieve positive health outcomes and improve patient access to high quality, affordable care. Jessica also assumes responsibility for provider facing clinical support of Highmark’s Provider Facing Medicare Stars value-based reimbursement program. Collectively, her team impacts over 1.8 Million patient lives and supports over 1700 primary care practices. Earlier in her career, Jessica transitioned from community pharmacy practice to managed care at CVS Health where she could have a broader impact by designing and implementing meaningful Medication Therapy Management Programs for Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial members. Jessica is a Pittsburgh native and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University in 2009. She earned her Board Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy in 2014.

Laura Mark

Vice President of Pharmacy for Allegheny Health Network

Laura is Vice President of Pharmacy for Allegheny Health Network. In 2006, Laura joined Allegheny General Hospital, and has served in roles as Director and System Director of Pharmacy as well as leadership oversight of various other clinical departments at Allegheny General Hospital. Her management experience includes Nationwide Children’s Hospital, McKesson Med Management, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, as well as a serving for the past fourteen years as a board member for a home health nursing company in Ontario, Canada. Laura is an alma mater of Duquesne University, receiving both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees. She also received her Master of Science degree in Hospital Pharmacy Administration and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency in Health-System Administration at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Laura is also a graduate of McMaster University where she received her Master of Health Management degree.

Susan Wescott

Executive Lead Clinical Services at Alluma, a transparent PBM

Susan Wescott leads clinical services for Alluma, a provider-led, provider-focused alternative to the traditional pharmacy benefit manager, developed in partnership between Vizient and Mayo Clinic. In this role, she coordinates all clinical services provided to Alluma by Mayo Clinic, including formulary management; utilization management and all clinical pharmacy programs. Wescott has 34 years of experience in health care, spanning pharmacy leadership, laboratory medicine, clinical research, and new business ventures. She began her career with an independent pharmacy chain, providing direct patient services, and joined DuPont Merck Pharmaceuticals in 1989 as a senior brand manager. There she launched a campaign to establish oral anticoagulant therapy as the standard of care for atrial fibrillation and managed several other key portfolio products. She joined the Mayo Clinic as a central pharmacy operations supervisor for the Mayo Clinic Hospital and later launched an academic research organization supporting clinical drug trials. Wescott also served as business development manager for Mayo Clinic Laboratories, where she negotiated partnerships and license agreements between the Mayo Clinic Department of Laboratory Medicine and diagnostic companies. She spent six years as a research pharmacist in the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, helping investigators evaluate therapies to drive new drug discoveries into clinical practice. Just prior to Alluma, she led Mayo Clinic Pharmacy Benefit Solutions, which served 25 self-insured health plans and approximately 200,000 members. Wescott earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.
